Event types and other definitions:

 
Adventure Run: Controls must be obtained on foot. Normally this done running or hiking, but in the winter months, snowshoeing or skiing are also options.  
 
Adventure Bike: Controls must be obtained by bike and/or on foot. Mountain, hybrid, or cross bikes are recommended.
 
Adventure Paddle: Controls must be obtained using any human-powered watercraft (canoe, kayak, paddleboat, rowboat, etc) and/or on foot.
 
Adventure Race: A team event combining an adventure run, paddle, and bike.
 
Dry (D): Applies to paddle navigation only. A control labeled "dry" CANNOT be punched from the watercraft; you WILL need to get out of your boat to obtain the control.
 
Wet (W) Applies to paddle navigation only. A control labled "wet" CAN be punched from the watercraft; you WILL NOT need to get out of your boat to obtain the control. Note that a wet control does not have to be punched from the watercraft. 
 
Day: Course is intended to be completed during daylight hours.
 
Night: Course is intended to be completed during hours of darkness.  Controls will have reflectors on them to make them easier to find. Bring a headlamp or flashlight!
 
Checkpoint (CP) or Control: a visual indicator signaling a control point, usually an orange and white nylon "flag". We'll have a sample at the start.
 
Control Card or Punch Card: used to validate that you were at a Check Point.
